1949

The inn came into the possession of the Lochmann family over 70 years ago. Helmut’s parents, Maria and Josef, bought it from the then owner, Uncle Ignatz – hence the name “Natz” (it was previously called the “Oberbachgut”).

1980

Thirty years later, the parents hand over the business to their son Helmut and his wife Edith, who in the following years run it with great enthusiasm and a warm, hospitable spirit.

2006

A major milestone: the old inn is extended and completely rebuilt in a sunnier spot. Now there is more space, greater possibilities and even more room for friendly get-togethers.

2016

The next generation brings a breath of fresh air into the establishment, with Miriam and Dominik taking on ever more responsibility – in the front of house, the kitchen and every other area too.

2026

We open the brand new and cosy Natz Lodge, where guests can now enjoy wonderful holidays here in South Tyrol – while our mountain inn remains a place for everyone to enjoy a get together.

Let us tell you a story…

The Berggasthof Natz, its people and its history

The Berggasthof Natz in Platzers, near Tisens, can offer more than just good food – it is the work of an entire family! We, the Lochmanns, have now been running the inn in Platzers for three generations.

Our inn used to be much smaller, with room for just 30 guests or so – but at some point it became clear that we needed more space for all those who wanted to stop by up here: so Helmut and Edith made the decision to expand their inn.

Thus, on 19 June 2006, the great day arrived when the new guesthouse opened its doors, larger and more modern – but still run with just as much enthusiasm.

The children of the family were also involved: Miriam was at the very heart of things from an early age and now, alongside Edith, looks after the front of house. Dominik made for the kitchen, trained as a chef, brought a burst of fresh energy there and has ever since been turning high-quality ingredients into delicious South Tyrolean dishes. Stefanie, Dominik’s wife, now also forms an integral part of the team – and then there are of course Kevin, David and Valentina.

What really sets the Berggasthof Natz apart is its team spirit: everyone pitches in, everyone contributes their strengths – and, together, we ensure that you’ll truly enjoy your time with us.

Helmut: the Schnitzel King, Grandpa for Every Occasion & Flower Expert

Known far beyond the region as the “Schnitzel King,” Helmut is famous for his golden, crispy Wiener schnitzels – a must-try for many guests. But there’s much more to him: as the grandpa for every occasion, he always has a funny remark ready and lovingly creates special moments for his grandchildren. When he’s not chatting with guests, he takes care of the flowers on our balcony. And if you can’t find him at the inn, you’ll probably spot him in the stable with his beloved Haflinger horses.

Edith: tireless worker & the soul of the house

Edith is the heart and soul of the house. Thanks to her direct and honest nature, everyone always knows where they stand with her – something our guests truly appreciate as well. She works tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly and, as our “finance minister,” she always keeps an eye on the numbers and reliably holds the business together. You can always count on Edith!

Miriam: the all-rounder

Whether in service, cleaning, the office, or decorating: Miriam keeps everything running with energy and dedication. With her sometimes slightly crazy personality, she brings life and laughter into the house. She’s also the go-to person when it comes to wine and carefully selects an exciting and varied wine list. Miriam loves nature, and when she’s not working, you’ll find her jogging or hiking up the Laugenspitze – her favorite place.

Dominik: skilled craftsman & passionate chef

Dominik loves working in the kitchen and creating fresh regional dishes with passion and care. For him, every plate contains hard work, dedication, and a piece of family tradition. Besides his cooking, he also takes care of everything that keeps the mountain inn running smoothly – from small repairs to larger projects.

Stefanie: calmness in person & strong support

Stefanie takes care of reservations, sets the tables, and always keeps an eye on everything. She’s also happy to help her husband Dominik in the kitchen whenever needed. With her calm and balanced nature, she brings structure and serenity into the house – exactly what a family-run business sometimes needs.

Kevin: nature-loving country boy with a big heart

Kevin combines his love for his homeland with practical craftsmanship. He lovingly cares for the goats on our farm while also learning the carpentry trade. With his grounded personality and passion for nature, he represents a true piece of local tradition at our mountain inn. Kevin shows how tradition and younger generations can blend together perfectly. During summer, he loves spending his free time at the Gfrillner Laugenalm.

Valentina and David: the youngest members of the family

Valentina and David bring life, laughter, and joyful energy to our mountain inn. With their carefree nature, they remind us every day that our house is not only a place to work, but above all a home for the whole family. David dreams of becoming a chef like his father one day, while Valentina wants to become a waitress in a dirndl like her mother. ✨
